“Let Go. … To Let Grow. .”

with 5 comments

Was watching the movie “Frequency” today, and it took me back to the time when I was teaching my daughter to ride a bicycle. It’s typical to hold onto the bicycle for the first few days till the child finds his/her balance. And then one day comes the time when, you just decide to let go. That is the moment when the child takes that big step to the next level. What’s crucial here is the timing when you let go. Too early and the child will fall instantly and probably end up with a shaken confidence. Too late and you would make the child dependant for a period longer than required.
It’s equally important to be mindful of the right moment to”let go” whilst grooming teams. It’s as important to “let go” as it is to “hand hold”. What’s crucial is the timing!

“Butterflies are an essential ingredient of Excellence”

leave a comment »

“Butterflies in the stomach” – something that everybody experiences at some point of time or another. The general belief is that they tend to go down as one progresses in life.

The reality probably is that , they are always there. It’s just that, we learn how to deal with them as we grow.

I have always believed that “butterflies” are essential to push you that extra mile which takes you closer to Excellence.

“Butterflies” are certainly an essential ingredient of Excellence!

Greetings from 100 gm Zindagi

with 2 comments

Hello everybody!

It sure has been a long gap and my apologies for not having been around for quite a while.

The reason, very frankly, has been actually quite contrary to the basic fundamental of 100 gm Zindagi. I have just been too tied up to “look outside the window”.

Nevertheless, I guess there is no better time than “now” to get back and get going again.

Cheers…

The Irony of Being “Informed”

with one comment

Being “well informed” & being “over informed”  – There is a very fine line that divides the two. While the former may facilitate oneself, the latter may well become a deterrent.

This might sound strange considering the world that we live in today when information is always flowing – solicited or unsolicited.

What happens in the bargain is that, very often we tend to get “over-informed”. Most of this information lies in our “Circle of Concern” (Dr. Stephen Covey) and it infact starts taking us away from our “Circle of Influence”. Net result- we land up in a situation where we have tons of information which we can do nothing about.

Consider it carefully – is that info really required to be allowed in?

“What Fills Up That Empty Space”

with 3 comments

What’s typical about an empty space or vacuum is that it fills itself with anything that is in its vicinity. It does not differentiate between “good or bad” or “appropriate or inappropriate”. It just fulfills that basic need to fill up the empty space.

While this is a phenomenon guided by scientific principles, things are different when it comes to a metaphorical reference of the same in our day-to-day lives. Whenever there is a void or an empty space  that might exist or get created circumstantially, it becomes very important to be conscious of what fills up that “empty space”.

“Where Do We Lose It All?”

with 4 comments

Dussera just went by and while the entire world outside was busy preparing the “Raavan” to be traditionally put down, here were my two little daughters doing the same at home. They had got their entire gang of  friends together to put up their very own “Raavan”, together. They were up early in the morning, got all the material that was required, mustered up the help of elders to complete what they were unable to and were at it right through the day, without a moment’s rest.

As I watched them go through the activity, what struck me rather noticeably was the presence of all those behaviours that are generally stated to be the prerequisite of a successful venture. Each one of these kids was demonstrating the so-called “High Performance Behaviours” that we are often taught much later on in life.

The question then is that , if these already exist within us, where do we lose them as we grow up? Why is it that we need to be taught those very things all over again which are so instinctive & so fundamental to us right from the beginning of our lives?

“Magnifying Glass or Microscope ?”

leave a comment »

Magnifying Glass &  Microscope, both quite commonly known and used instruments. Both enlarge the images seen through them. However, both are always used for different purposes.

The same image seen through either of them would seem totally different to the eye. It, therefore, becomes important to know when to use which one of them.

Life has its own such images and it becomes important to understand when to use a “Magnifying Glass” & when to use a “Microscope”. It entirely depends on what depth of details that you want to see. Using one in place of the other will always give you an image you probably aren’t looking for.

Think before you use one “Magnifying Glass or Microscope ?”

“When Not To React?”

leave a comment »

Each situation has its own merit on how one should react to it. There is no “one solution” to all the situations one encounters in life.

We generally are taught, not to be “reactive” in certain situations. The idea should be “not to react” to a negative stimulus when the very purpose of it is to invoke a reaction from you.

There  is a typical example to explain this. Take the instance of roadside eve-teasers passing a remark at a passerby. The moment the person reacts, the purpose of the eve-teasers to get a reaction is served.

This is just one aspect amongst many more. Watch this space for more.

Till then “Know when not to react”

The “Airplane Mode” In Life

with 2 comments

I boarded a flight yesterday and was doing the same thing for the n th time- putting my cellphone on the “airplane mode” when the above thought struck me.
For the next two hours or so, no matter how “important” it was for someone to get in touch with me, it was just not going to be possible. The same applies vice a versa too.
When an airline regulation can make us do this, why can’t we practise this in our own day to day lives too? Why can’t we reduce the stress in our lives by putting our lives on the “airplane mode” too for sometime ,each day.
Just consider yourself to be taking a flight during that time.
I intend trying it out. Why don’t you do too?
